Wine Tasting Evening- This was our first event in the pub, so were unsure on how many were going to attend, to our delight we had a good turn out with local people tasting a variety of wine that could be then chosen as the wine we sold within our pub. We decided not to charge people for this pleasure but leave a donation bucket out, which all money donated being given to The J’s Hospice.
Quiz Night-This was our first quiz night, with a lot of interest prior to the event we knew we were in for a good night. We had a full pub with 11 teams. There is always a half time break with a difference in our quizzes, so being our first we were hoping our customers were up for the challenge. The challenge was to make an animal out of modelling balloons, which most teams struggling to even inflate the balloons. At the end of the quiz there was a clear winner and that happened to be a team that had come to support the event from the J’s Hospice
Quiz Night- This was our second quiz night and with the success of the first we had to make customers book tables for their teams to ensure we had room for all the teams. With our customers knowing there is a difference to our quiz nights they came with a few ideas as it was held on St David’s Day. Our half time interval game was one of taste this time, we gave each team plates of different flavoured crisps and cheeses and they had to guess the flavours. We also had a round on treasure hunt, each team was given a list of items that could be carried on a day to day basis, this saw customers emptying handbags, running to cars and trading items with other teams in order to complete the list, the only problem was we had a team resident to the pub who found it quite easy to run upstairs to collect the items. The over all winner of this Quiz night was......... With all money raised on the evening going to Farleigh Hospice.
Race Night- This again was the first event of this kind in the pub. With a good turn out from the customers, again our race nights are with a difference to many others. We had 3 of the typical race night races, and then we had 3 races, which required audience participation. Our first was called the ‘blowing race’ this was a challenge between 4 of our customers to blow up an inflatable rugby ball as quick as they could, this was made more difficult for the participants by the rest of the pubs banter. The winner was Gavin Maclaclan . The Second was the ‘Sucking race’ this again with 4 of our customers competing against each other as to who could drink a babies bottle of lager the quickest. The winner was Gill Morris. Our third race was the ‘flapping race’ this is where the 4 participants had to flap a paper fish with a newspaper to the other end of the bar. The Winner was Dave Wait. We then had our auction race where we auction the ownership of the horses and what ever is raised half goes to the owner and the other half going to charity. Overall on this event we managed to raise £275 for the J’s Hospice.
